2ND ANNUAL IIDA/METROPOLIS SMART ENVIRONMENTS AWARDS ANNOUNCED
May 30, 2007, Chicago, IL –The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is pleased to announce the winners of its second annual Smart Environments Awards, co-sponsored by publishing partner Metropolis Magazine. Winners were chosen from projects submitted from interior design firms around the world. The competition will honor the best in design solutions over the past five years-- those that are environmentally and socially responsible as well as beautiful and functional.
Five winners were selected in from projects across the spectrum of design practice:
The jury for the distinguished competition included Hank Hildebrandt, AIA, School of Architecture & Design, University of Cincinnati; Shashi Caan, IIDA, Shashi Caan Collective, NYC; and Joe Pettipas, IIDA, HOK Canada. The judging, which took place May 17 in Chicago, was moderated by Susan Szenasy, Editor in Chief, Metropolis Magazine and Ken Wilson, IIDA, AIA, LEED AP, IIDA Sustainability Forum Advisor, Envision Design.
“We were very pleased with the number and quality of the international group of entries this year,” stated Ken Wilson, IIDA, AIA, LEED AP. “The jury had their work cut out for them and spent a considerable amount of time evaluating the last cut before finally selecting the winners. This year, the winners again represent a range of project types: a call center, a wine tasting facility, a model apartment, a nature camp for kids and a Federal office. This seems to support the idea that sustainability is the new standard for good design and that green strategies can be applied to any project type.”
A winner reception will be hosted by Lees during NeoCon on Tuesday evening, June 12, 2007.
