BEHNISCH ARCHITEKTEN AWARDED IIDA'S BEST OF COMPETITION

June 9, 2008, Chicago, IL – The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is pleased to announce that Behnisch Architekten (Stuttgart, GERMANY) was announced as Best of Competition of the 35th Annual Interior Design Competition for their project Haus im Haus (Hamburg, GERMANY). The firm was announced at COOL, IIDA’s NeoCon Gala, on Sunday, June 8 at the Westin Chicago River North. The 35th Annual Interior Design Competition, established in 1973, was created to recognize outstanding interior design and to encourage new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishings of interior space. Haus im Haus was chosen from among other winners of IIDA’s 35th Annual Interior Design Competition:

  1. Project: Lehrer Office- Los Angeles, Calif.
    Firm: Lehrer Architects- Los Angeles, Calif.
  2. Project: C_42: Citroën Flagship Showroom- Paris, FRANCE
    Firm: Manuelle Gautrand Architect- Paris, FRANCE
  3. Project: Novelty Hill Januik Winery- Woodinville, Wash.
    Firm: Mithun- Seattle, Wash.
  4. Project: MX Quarry Bay- Hong Kong, CHINA
    Firm: Steve Leung Designers Ltd. - Hong Kong, CHINA

In addition, The Landmark, a supermarket and food court in the Landmark Department Store in Manila, Philippines designed by Hugh A. Boyd Architects of Montclair, N.J., was honored as the winner of the 16th Annual Will Ching Design Competition. The competition recognized outstanding commercial design by firms of five or fewer individuals.

Judges for the distinguished competitions included Peter Conant, IIDA, AIA, LEED AP, Principal/ Design Principal, Conant Architects; Bill Grant, President and Creative Director, Grant Design Collaborative; Mark Harbick, IIDA, AIA, Design Principal and Vice President, Huntsman Architectural Group; and Elva Rubio, Executive Vice President and Creative Director, Bruce Mau Design.

All winning projects are featured in the May/NeoCon issue of Interior Design magazine, publishing partner for the competitions.
