Ed Bakos

Ed Bakos joined Champalimaud in December 2012 as Managing Director. Mr. Bakos’ extensive luxury hospitality and restaurant experience, spanning 26 years, has positioned him as a leader in the design industry. Ed is recognized for his ability to collaborate with high profile clients on complex projects to create innovative and engaging guest experiences. Over the course of his career, Ed’s work has been the recipient of numerous design awards, including a Presidential Design Award for his role in the renovation of the Lower Concourse of New York’s Grand Central Terminal, several Gold Key Awards, and a Boutique Design Award for Best Hotel in 2010. He was a member of the Think Team for the World Trade Center redevelopment and has given numerous lectures about his work. A graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters in Architecture from Harvard University, Mr. Bakos worked for several years overseas teaching architecture at Cornell University’s Rome Program and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Ed returned to New York to join Rockwell Group, where he served as Principal and Studio Leader for 18 years.

David Darling, IIDA

David Darling is a founding partner of Aidlin Darling Design. Mr. Darling brings over twenty-six years of design experience in architecture, interiors, landscapes and furniture. Aidlin Darling Design rigorously explores design across a wide range of scales, programs and disciplines with the goal of enabling poetic, sustainable and appropriate solutions. Building on the notion that design can enlighten the human spirit by engaging all of the senses, Mr. Darling has developed his interest in the connection between community, art, food, wine, and agriculture, through his involvement in Slow Food USA and through his firm’s work on a wide range of projects. The firm was recently announced as a winner for the National Design Award by the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Mr. Darling's commitment to the profession is maintained through his involvement in the AIA, IIDA, ASLA, SFMoMA’s Architecture + Design Forum and through his work as a lecturer, professor and guest critic at the California College of the Arts, the University of San Francisco, and UC Berkeley's School of Architecture.

Named to the position of Senior Vice President of Store Design and Merchandising for Bank of America Corporation in 2007, Ray continues a twenty-plus year career and upward path in the Retail Store Design and Planning sector. A key opportunity to lead both domestic and international retail design for Reebok International’s Rockport brand brought Ray extensive global experience and a strong understanding of retail methodologies in key international markets. The opportunity to expand his scope led to his role with Bank of America, initially leading the branch-merchandising strategy and execution for a portfolio of over 6,000 locations. Ray himself and his design work have been featured on HGTV, The Financial Times, The Boston Globe, WWD, Footwear News, Outdoor Retailer, Elle Decor and Better Homes and Gardens. He was appointed to the Association of Retail Environments and the Retail Advisory Board of DDi Magazine where he was voted one of the Top 10 Retail Design Influencers of the Year in 2012.
