April 16, 2009, Chicago, IL – The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Leaders Breakfast series marks its ninth year as an international series with events across the United States and Canada. Leaders Breakfast events are attended annually by designers, industry leaders, contractors, developers, real estate brokers and key business leaders in each city. Each breakfast is highlighted by a keynote speaker exemplifying an aspect of leadership in today’s world. Additionally, a local individual who has contributed to the design community is honored during the event. The National Benefactors of the IIDA Leaders Breakfast series are Herman Miller and Interior Design magazine.

The 2009 New York Leaders Breakfast on April 29 at Gotham Hall marks the 20th anniversary of the Chapter’s program. To signify this monumental year for the New York Leaders Breakfast, two keynote speakers will address attendees: Matthew Weiner, creator and executive producer of Mad Men, an AMC original series, and Nina DiSesa, chairman of McCann Erickson New York and author of Seducing the Boys Club. Additionally, the Chapter will honor Joshua David and Robert Hammond, co-founders of Friends of the High Line.

The New England Chapter will welcome Leaders Breakfast attendees on May 5 at the Intercontinental Boston Waterfront Hotel. The keynote speaker is William Taylor, co-founder of Fast Company and best-selling author of Mavericks at Work. The event honoree is Felice L. Silverman, IIDA, President and a Principal at Silverman Trykowski Associates, Inc. in Boston, Mass.

The Houston Leaders Breakfast is May 20 at the Junior League of Houston Ballroom. The Texas/Oklahoma Chapter previously hosted their Leaders Breakfast event in Dallas, and is proud to bring the series to Houston for the first time. Matt Petersen, Global Green USA President, CEO and Board Member, will provide the event's keynote address. Mayor Bill White, Executive Officer of the City of Houston and sustainable initiatives champion, is the event honoree.

Save the date of September 10 for the San Francisco Leaders Breakfast at the Four Seasons Hotel. The keynote speaker will be Majora Carter, President and CEO of Majora Carter Group and community and business leader.

The Chicago Leaders Breakfast is on October 21 at the Drake Hotel. Allison Levine, team captain of the first American women’s Everest expedition and business leader, is the keynote speaker. The Chapter will honor Chris Kennedy, President, Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc.

The Toronto Leaders Breakfast, in partnership with ARIDO, is on December 4 at the Four Seasons. Edward Burtynsky, one of Canada’s most respected photographers, is the keynote speaker. The event honoree is Joe Pettipas, IIDA, ARIDO, ASID, HOK Canada’s Practice Leader – Hospitality and Retail.
