October 5, 2010, Chicago, ILThe International Interior Design Association announces the premiere of the Global Excellence Awards, an international Interior Design Competition honoring the best in interior design projects from around the world. This worldwide design competition has been established to highlight outstanding originality and excellence in the creation of international interior design/architecture projects.

“For years, our International Members and Members doing business outside the U.S. have suggested there are subtle nuances and cultural differences for firms designing interiors in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America,” stated Cheryl S. Durst, Honorary FIIDA, LEED AP, Executive Vice President and CEO, IIDA. “We’re excited and proud to be able to host such a deliberate celebration of the talented teams establishing global excellence in design, particularly with an internationally recognized brand of design leadership, BMW GroupDesignworkUSA.”

BMW Group DesignworksUSA is a proud partner in this competition. “DesignworksUSA designs much more than just cars – our studios in California, Munich and Singapore consult with international clients on creative solutions for everything from yachts to computers and airplanes to urban furniture,” said Laurenz Schaffer, President, BMW Group DesignworksUSA. “It is a natural fit for us to participate in a worldwide competition where design is revered for its power to innovate, similar to the DesignworksUSA philosophy.”

Winners will be awarded in each of ten distinct categories, as well as two Honorable Mention awards, and one Global Excellence “Best of Competition” winner will be selected to receive an original, one-of-a-kind crystal award created by Swarovski. The winners will be celebrated at a special presentation during Maison&Objet, January, 2011 in Paris, France.

Entries will be judged on originality of design and appropriateness of the design solution and the successful integration of design elements. A prestigious, international panel of judges will select the winning design firms and their projects.

Entrants will be required to submit an official entry form along with supporting images and design statements. Entry kit requests are available now on the IIDA website,, or by contacting Ms. Jenny Palmer, or 312-379-5177.
