International Interior Design Association

September 3, 2009, Chicago, IL – The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is proud to announce the next event in the 2009 IIDA Leaders Breakfast series, taking place October 21, from 7:30-10:00 a.m. at the Drake Hotel on the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago. Last year’s event was a great success with over 400 industry and business leaders from the Midwest in attendance.

Keynote speaker Alison Levine is Founder of Daredevil Strategies™, Founder of the nonprofit organization Climb High Foundation, and adjunct faculty member at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Born with a life-threatening heart condition that precluded her from participating in demanding physical activities as a child, Ms. Levine eventually underwent surgery to correct a defective valve. She rebounded and went on to make headlines with various daring outdoor exploits, including: serving as the team captain of the first American Women’s Everest Expedition, skiing across the Arctic Circle to the geographic North Pole, and breaking ground as the first American to complete a 600-mile traverse from west Antarctica to the South Pole. After earning her MBA from Duke University, Ms. Levine moved to New York to work for investment banking firm Goldman Sachs. In 2003, she left Wall Street to serve as deputy finance director for Arnold Schwarzenegger in his successful bid to become Governor of California. Currently, her consulting firm specializes in organizational effectiveness, leadership development and team dynamics, while her nonprofit organization is dedicated to improving the lives of jobless women in Africa by training them as trekking guides and porters in their local mountains.

An annual tradition, the IIDA Illinois Chapter will honor Chris Kennedy for his outstanding contributions to the local business community, interior design professions and cultural arts. Mr. Kennedy will be honored for his leadership as President of Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI). MMPI is the world’s largest operator of showroom buildings and private trade show facilities, producing up to 85 trade shows a year.

Leaders Breakfast events are attended annually by designers, industry leaders, contractors, developers, real estate brokers and key business leaders in IIDA Chapters throughout North America.  Each breakfast is highlighted by a keynote speaker exemplifying an aspect of leadership in today’s world. This promises to be a stand-out year with the support of sponsors Herman Miller and Interior Design magazine.
