IIDA Sustainable Design

Make sustainability more than just a buzzword. Enter your design into IIDA’s Student Sustainable Design Competition.

This competition receives submissions that cover the spectrum from residential and retail to projects that enhance the lives of the homeless and home-bound. Cash prizes are awarded for the top three designs. The IIDA Foundation generously sponsored this year’s awards.

IIDA is pleased to announce the 2009 student winners of the 7th Annual Student Sustainable Design Competition.

This year marked our highest number of entries and some of the best projects we have seen.

Best of Competition went to Joung Youn Park of the New York School of Interior Design. His design, Brown for Green, serves as a community center that cares for the elderly and strives to educate children on the upper east side of New York.

The Award of Excellence was given to Cassidy Lange, Washington State University, for her rendering of Market Mix.

Market Mix aims to create a built environment in which consumers will view food differently through education and demonstration. The design features a recycled glass terrazzo floor and My Mix classrooms where the community can gather to share healthy eating practices.

The Honorable Mention entry belongs to Giselle Alboniga, Miami International University, and her project “Surface Dermatology.”

The actual site is located in Miami’s MiMo Biscayne Boulevard Historic District. The architectural style of the building is MiMo, or Miami Modernist architecture. Giselle incorporated a seamless, aesthetically pleasing and functional design throughout.
