Lloy Hack Memorial Fund

The Lloy Hack Memorial Fund was established in 2002 to honor the memory of IIDA member and award-winning Boston Interior Designer, Lloy Hack. Mrs. Hack was a devoted advocate of mentoring young design professionals.

 

2013 Winning Essays

The Foundation Trustees are pleased to announce Joni Renee Whitworth, Student IIDA, Oregon Chapter has won $1000 award for the 2013 Lloy Hack Essay Competition. Joni is a Sophomore at Art Institute of Portland. In her winning essay she shares her experience at Mahlum Architects & Cornerstone Management for the IIDA Student Mentoring Week.

...Today I’ve returned to Forest Grove as a sophomore of the Art Institute of Portland, as an International Interior Design Association student member, and as a participant in the IIDA’s Student Mentoring Week. Because I have an interest in pursuing institutional design, the IIDA has arranged for me to explore the Forest Grove site as a guest of Mahlum Architects & Cornerstone Management, two firms the school board has hired to take on the repair of the decaying old roof as well as a multi-million-dollar school-wide facelift.  Read More
 

 For 2013, an additional award was given to Bethany Haubert, Student IIDA, Great Plains Chapter in the amount of $750. Bethany is a attending University of Nebraska - Lincoln and shares her experience with D.L. Couch Wallcovering Source for the IIDA Student Mentoring Week. 

This gift has been made possible by the Family and Friends of Larry Gillian, a former executive with Solutia who passed away in September 2012. Larry was an important force in the contract carpet industry and a major supporter of interior design and designers.

...One of the things I had been missing about the military is the sense of camaraderie I felt with my fellow crewmembers. That all changed when I joined IIDA. Kristine Allen in particular made me feel welcome. I first met Kristine at a professional IIDA meeting while I was interning last summer. She was especially enthusiastic and seemed to be involved in many different aspects of the Great Plains Chapter.
