Be More. Find your voice with IIDA.
IIDA is a professional networking and educational Association of 13,000 Members in 10 specialty practice forums and 33 Chapters around the world.
IIDA was founded in 1994 as the result of a merger of the Institute of Business Designers (IBD); the International Society of Interior Designers (ISID); and the Council of Federal Interior Designers (CFID). The goal of the merger was to create an international association with a united mission that would represent Interior Designers worldwide. Since that date, IIDA has worked to convene communities of Interior Designers across regions and specialties representing the interests for the entire community.
IIDA understands that Membership is personal, meaningful and shapes you as an individual and practitioner throughout your career, adapting with your needs. IIDA advances the profession of Interior Design through the progressive cultivation of innovative leadership and by constantly advocating for exceptional design. We work with you and for you to shape your future in design.
You should expect no less.
IIDA knows that early in your career you will typically practice as a design generalist exploring a diverse and eclectic terrain of clients and design projects. As you advance, your focus will become more distinctive. We recognize that the level of information you require will increasingly become more specialized and our Forums support this throughout each stage of your career.
IIDA Forums offer a venue for discussion with professionals in similar fields and dissemination of information on trends, problem-solving strategies and perspectives on current or developing areas of design practice within specific markets. Forums meaningfully enhance your Membership experience as you receive priority notification of specialized events and publications targeted to your primary areas of interest.
Education is a life-long pursuit, and the process of becoming a well-educated design practitioner does not end when you graduate. Your professional development continues both formally and informally and IIDA supports you with numerous educational options. Our continuing education programs provide you with the knowledge and confidence to prosper in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace.
Design is about humanity and improving the human condition through interior environments that are effective, efficient and exceptional. IIDA shares your passion to create a better world, and we leverage the resources of the IIDA Foundation – the philanthropic arm of the Association – to give back. Foundation programs range from Chapter partnerships for local priorities to international initiatives supporting the IIDA strategic plan. Initiatives work to advance Interior Design through education, research and knowledge to benefit Members and the Interior Design profession.
Great Design knows no boundaries. Nor do great Designers. IIDA honors the rich history and legacy of the profession. We are inspired by the process of getting to the Future of Design. Whatever that journey may uncover. Combining realism and vision, IIDA defines opportunities for our Members to maximize their professionalism.
IIDA is a catalyst for your professional development. Take advantage of IIDA opportunities to hone your leadership skills by participating at the Chapter or international level. Whether your interest is in a serious commitment or a few hours supporting an event committee, IIDA can provide you with leadership opportunities outside of your firm.
IIDA tracks and supports legislation that raises the bar for the profession and protects your right to practice. It’s important to you and it’s important to us. You know the field is always changing, and legislation will shape the future. IIDA can be your voice through GRAction and GRAlerts, and local newsletters. IIDA can be your partner and voice for your involvement with your State’s coalition.
Design is an emotional, aesthetic and intellectual pursuit. Engage your passion. Satisfy your curiosity. And stay current with the latest discourse in design with news and info updates from IIDA and your Chapter.
IIDA makes it easy to connect with like-minded professionals. Design doesn’t happen without collaboration. We support, encourage and convene avid, active discourse about the issues and forces that are shaping, changing and pushing the profession. We know what you’re talking about. We know what you should be talking about. And we want to connect you with peers and colleagues who share your concerns. From Government Roundtables, Hospitality Roundtables, Principals Roundtables, Industry Communities and Leaders Breakfasts, thought provocation will support your desire to think outside the box.
