© 2010 With our publishing partner, Interior Design magazine, IIDA’s Annual Will Ching Design Competition honors outstanding commercial design from firms of five (5) or fewer employees.
PURPOSE | To recognize and reward talented designers working in firms of five (5) or fewer employees and to encourage new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishing of commercial spaces.
WHO SHOULD ENTER | Any practicing interior designer working in a firm of five or fewer employees may submit entries. Truly international in scope, this competition is open to participants worldwide.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS | Projects must have been completed after January 1, 2008.
JUDGING CRITERIA | Submissions will be judged suitability of design to the project challenge, originality of the design solution, and the successful integration of interior finishes and furnishings. Winners are determined by a jury of design professionals The jury reserves the right not to select a winner from the entries submitted for this competition.
AWARDS | All winners of the competition will be announced at IIDA’s NeoCon® celebration COOL. The winning project may be published in the NeoCon issue of Interior Design magazine. In the event that a previously published entry is selected as a winner, Interior Design magazine reserves the right not to republish that project.
The 18th Annual Will Ching Design Competition is now closed. Watch for an announcement of the winners in March 2010.
With entries from all across the globe, the winner of this year’s Will Ching Competition was chosen by judges Suzanne Tick – President, Suzanne Tick Inc., D.B. Kim – Principal Designer, D.B. Kim Inc., and Erla Dogg Ingjaldsdottir, Associate IIDA – Principal, Minarc. The winning project was Gallery More North in New York, NY, a gallery/exhibition space devoted to the best of contemporary Nordic art and design, and designed by KOKO Architecture + Design of New York, NY.
“Gallery More North in New York is an inspirational and humble interior design project;, while being minimal and providing spatial requirements without feeling over crowded. The space contents are informative and spatial design details are educational through its details in thoughtful ways.” - D.B. Kim, Competition Judge
The winning project is featured in the NeoCon issue of Interior Design magazine, the publishing partner for the competition.
