May 14, 2008, Chicago, IL – The International Interior Design Association (IIDA), in partnership with AIA and CoreNet Global, is pleased to announce the winners of the 5th Annual Sustainable Leadership Awards for Design and Development. This year’s nominations were a testament to the level of seriousness corporations and their service providers are giving to sustainable design and development. Going beyond existing LEED™ standards, this year’s winners asserted the importance of scientific innovation and strategic thinking behind their corporate strategies.

A group of leading industry professionals served on the Award Steering Committee and as judges: Nick Axford, Ph.D., Head, Research and Consulting Department, CB Richard Ellis; Holley Henderson, IIDA, LEED AP, Principal, H2 Ecodesign, IIDA Sustainable Forum Advisor; Gail Lindsey, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal, Design Harmony; Richard Logan, AIA, Gensler, retired; Mike Napier, Head of Real Estate, Shell International; Sanford “Sandy” Smith, Manager, Corporate Manager, Real Estate and Facilities, Toyota Motor Sales USA; Ken Wilson, IIDA, AIA, LEED AP, Principal, Envision Design.

The 2008 winners are: For Achievement in Design in Not-For-Profit Organizations: GSBS Architects with the Escalante National Monument; For Achievement in Development in For-Profit Organizations: Perkins+Will on their Sustainable Design Initiative (SDI) Strategic Plan and the Green Operations Plan; For Achievement in Design in For-Profit Organizations: Liberty Property Trust presenting JohnsonDiversey, Inc.

“The 2008 awards highlight organizations who have holistically integrated sustainability into their entire infrastructure -- it is exciting to see that in their way of doing business, their systems and their buildings,” commented Holley Henderson, IIDA, LEED AP. “Sustainability has truly become a benchmarking metric.”

The award presenters were Mitchell Sawasy, FIIDA, AIA, Co-founder and Design Principal of Rothenberg Sawasy Architects and IIDA President Elect; Steven McCollom, IIDA, AIA, and Associate Partner with Gary Lee Partners; and David Harris, CoreNet Global Chairman, Senior Vice-President of Global Business Services for Sun Microsystems
