Welby Altidor, Keynote Speaker

Welby AltidorAs the executive creative director of creations at Cirque du Soleil, one of the world’s most creative companies, Welby Altidor was instrumental in overseeing the development of a portfolio of Cirque’s core future projects. He was the creative director for Michael Jackson ONE. He also spearheaded the creation of C:LAB, the creative laboratory of The Cirque du Soleil Group. The lab’s first project, SPARKED, a short film that features 10 quadcopters and unites humans and flying machines in choreography, won several prizes and accolades. Previously, Welby served as Cirque du Soleil’s director of creation in the Images, Events, and Lifestyle division, as well as the director of strategic relations, arts, circus, and sports. He is currently writing a book about the role of creative courage in making changes in any organization and project.

Tom Marquardt, Leadership Award of Excellence Honoree

Tom Marquardt

Tom Marquardt, IIDA, SBID, AMA-EC, defines interdisciplinary design, beginning with his triple major degree in graphic, industrial, and interior design. He subsequently applied this philosophy to marquardt+, his well-respected interdisciplinary design and branded environments studio practice in Chicago, which he created and led for almost 3 decades. Prior to that, Tom designed corporate and commercial interior projects ranging from office test-fit plans to high-end showrooms.

In 2015, Tom closed his practice to join HDR as a design principal. In 2017, he accepted the position of vice president, director of interiors for HOK’s Chicago office to contribute to the success of its global practice. He is also an IIDA Annual Student Design Charette co-founder and judge, and a member of the American Marketing Association Executive Circle and the Society of British and International Design (SBID). He has won several interior design awards and has been featured in publications including Interior Design magazine, Interiors & Sources, Contract magazine, Objekt International, and Abitare.
