June 13, 2010, Chicago, IL—The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) welcomes Members to Chicago with an inspiring and essential program lineup at NeoCon 2010. This year IIDA offers a range of events and presentations geared towards the reality of business in today’s environment, which is that there’s really No Such Thing as Business as Usual. Throughout the conference, IIDA will provide a platform for discussion of the provocative topics of the day and serve as a resource for conference attendees searching for answers in an unpredictable marketplace.

The Monday session, Rethinking, Redefining and Reinventing Our Work, will address best practices for staying ahead of the game and on top of the industry. Industry leaders drawn from specialty areas of corporate, education, facility planning, government, health care, hospitality and sustainability will convene for a lively roundtable bringing their own views and observations, in addition to sharing insight from case studies and white papers, on the benefits of rethinking and challenging industry norms. We look forward to an animated discussion between leaders and participants on politics, policies, the economy and current business trends.

Tuesday morning will bring a new round of insightful questions and answers from participants and leaders in the forum, Sustainability: Where We Are Now, Where We're Going. Buzzwords about sustainability, green products and greenwashing abound. We are at a tipping point in terms of sustainability – with all this awareness comes excitement, but also a lot of confusion. For those who are still questioning the point of going green, especially if it can’t be quantified in an immediate dollars and cents manner, join Katie Weeks, editor in chief, Eco-Structure, for some hard facts and insider knowledge. She launches the discussion through the lens of three Ps: Perception, Products, and Places, and won’t disappoint.

Continuing the conference theme of No Such Thing as Business as Usual, Mark Strauss, Hon. IIDA, Publisher of Interior Design Magazine leads the Wednesday discussion, State of the Industry: Government Design in 2010. On the heels of the recent release of the Universe Study conducted by Interior Design Magazine, Mark will reveal never before released data results from the study and present a full context of issues among both designers who work for the government and designers who do government work. Following the unveiling of the results, participants are invited to learn more about specific areas of Government Design in presentations and break out sessions.

Overall, the schedule of IIDA events provides a lively complement to the rest of the NeoCon lineup. Attendance at events is expected to be robust, with the first annual IIDA Career Boot Camp for students selling out before any other event at the show.
