August de los Reyes

August de los Reyes is a designer, writer, and educator who pioneered inclusive design in the technology sector. He received a master’s in design studies with distinction from Harvard University and is a fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts.

Formerly the head of design at Pinterest, de los Reyes inspired millions of people around the world to discover, do, and reach for the things they love. Prior to tackling the crafty world of Pinterest, he worked as the principal director and head of design for Xbox at Microsoft in 2003. While there, he designed everything but games — and broke ground in natural user interfacing. De los Reyes has given lectures around the world at institutions, including MIT, University of Toronto, and the University of Southern California.

Bill Van Erp, Leadership Award of Excellence Honoree

Bill Van Erp

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Bill Van Erp kickstarted his career as a librarian for Environmental Planning & Research, Inc. in 1979. Three years later, he made the move to Gensler where he put his master’s degree in library science to use.

After 35 years of dedication to his true passion, Van Erp just retired this June from Gensler and his role as senior associate and the northwest regional resource director. Van Erp's responsibilities during his tenure included daily coordination with a dozen full-time resource directors across the firm to bring each client’s vision to life. In his work at Gensler, he has found the relationship between the specifiers and the manufacturers to be paramount. In addition to the incalculable amount of informal product meetings, he boasts over 3,700 formal presentations in his career.
